Riverview Jackrabbits - Back for 2022/2023

We Need Coaches and a Program Convener

The Riverview Jackrabbits program is returning for the 2022-2023 ski season. Coaches and other volunteers are still needed to support the program. If you’re interested in assisting, please contact dennis.cunningham@riverviewjackrabbits.com. We also need volunteers to assist with rental gear preparation and distribution, post-session hot chocolate making and other program related tasks. Volunteers are an invaluable part of the success this program has experienced over the last 15 years. Please consider helping in any way you can.

About the Riverview JackRabbits Program

The Riverview Jackrabbits is part of Riverview Community Nordic and affiliated with the Cross Country Ski Association of Manitoba (www.ccski.mb.ca) and Cross Country Canada (www.ccski.com ).

The Riverview Jackrabbits program has been promoting family cross country skiing in our neighbourhood for over 15 years. When volunteer coaches are available the Riverview JackRabbits program offers a Bunny Rabbits program for children ages 3 to 5 and the Jackrabbits program for children ages 6 to 10. Group sizes are dependent on the number of coaches supporting the program. With one coach for each group, space is limited in both these groups to 10 children in Bunny Rabbits and 15 in Jackrabbits.

The ski sessions are held behind or near the Riverview Community club so that we can be near washrooms and a heated building. We also ski on the trails found on Churchill Parkway.

Sessions schedule is to be determined once the program has established if it will be proceeding in 2021/2022. This decision is entirely based on volunteer coach availability.

Program Costs

The cost of the program is $118 for one child. Registration costs cover group membership in the Cross Country Ski Association of Manitoba, insurance, club equipment and supplies, and training costs.

Parents are encouraged to ski with their children and take part in the Jackrabbits sessions. Your participation will help makes skiing a positive, shared experience.

Equipment Rentals

Parents are responsible for finding equipment for their children. However, a limited amount of equipment is available for rent from the Riverview Community Club. A damage deposit of $175.00 is required each set of equipment rented. Rental fees are $110 for each set of equipment (boots, poles and skis).

Information regarding purchasing ski equipment will be emailed to all Jackrabbit families. Used equipment is available throughout the city, and the Cross Country Ski Association of MB usually holds a Swap Shop each winter. Facebook Marketplace can be a good source for equipment.
